When horse flies, deer flies or any other type of biting fly attacks your skin, their bite can be quite painful.  The most common and widely used ingredient for repelling mosquitoes and gnats is DEET.  As many have discovered, even the strong DEET products such as Maxi DEET that are great for gnats and mosquitoes do not keep painful biting flies from attacking your exposed skin.

Researchers at Sawyer Insect Repellers laboratories have found that by combining the power of DEET with another material creates a great combination for repelling horse flies, deer flies, buffalo gnats and other painful insects.  The Broad Spectrum Composite Spray has become a very popular product for those who live in areas where biting flies are a problem.

While Deet can repel all mosquitoes, ticks, and some flies, Deet does not repel all flies effectively. For those situations you will need the extra protection of the special fly repellent, R-326, which is added to this formula and is effective against flies, gnats and no-see-ums. For times when sprays are more convenient than lotions, this is the formula to use. Sawyer's Broad Spectrum contains no alcohol which has been shown to increase skin absorption of Deet.
