California Ground Squirrel, Beechey Ground Squirrel

Sometimes called the "Beechey Ground Squirrel" after explorer Frederick William Beechey, the California Ground Squirrel is found from central Washington to western Oregon, and northern California in plains, meadows, and tree covered hillsides.
The California Ground Squirrel is identified by its gray and light brown fur and by the gray colors that looks like a cape over its head and shoulders. It has white rings around its eyes, and light yellow on its under belly. The body of the California Ground Squirrel is around thirteen inches long while its tail is around seven inches long.
Feasting mainly on plant parts, the California Ground Squirrel eats leaves, stems, flowers, seeds, berries, fruit, insects, and small animals.
The burrow tunnels of the California Ground Squirrel can be anywhere from five to thirty-five feet in length.
