Cricket Elimination
Adult house crickets are 3/4-1 inch long, light
yellowish-brown with 3 dark bands on the head. They will eat almost anything, often
causing damage to woolens and silk. Crickets are nocturnal, hiding during the daytime but
becoming active and vocal during the night. The "song" or chirping sound of the
house cricket is welcome anywhere except in structures. Crickets can be found in
basements, crawlspaces, kitchens, fireplaces, behind appliances, behind baseboards and
other cracks, crevices and wall voids.

This cricket is slightly longer than the House
Cricket and is dark brown to gray or black. They prefer to live outside, feeding on
plants, but will come inside if food sources dry up or there or unfavorable extremes in
temperatures.

This cricket is also known as a hump-back cricket
due to it's hump-back appearance. They are light to dark brown, about 1/2 -1 1/2 inch
long. Their diet is almost anything but will feed on clothes. Most often are
found in crawl spaces and basements, but also like any cool and damp area like under logs
or stones. Treat as you would the House Cricket, but pay particular attention to
crawl spaces and basements.

Cricket elimination is best accomplished
by combining a good residual spray with a professional bait. Spray is to be used
indoors and outdoors, baits are placed in hiding places where sprays cannot be used but
where crickets can be found. Baits can also be used outdoors.
KEEP SPRAYS AND CRICKET BAITS SEPARATED to avoid bait contamination.
If you must spray close to areas where you intend on using a cricket bait,
use a non-repellent insecticide such as Dominion.
Odorless insecticide spray products such as
Cyper WP, Cyzmic
CS or D-Fense SC are best for long term control.
Choose the size or formulation that best suits you. Spray outdoors around
windows, doors, vents, weep holes, plumbing lines or other possible entry points.
You also need to spray a band around the structure, three feet high and to the ground (on
your exterior walls) as well as a six foot swath on the ground. This will create a
barrier that not only kills existing crickets and other insect pests but also prevents
outdoor bugs from becoming indoor pests. To help eliminate crickets from
attics, basements or cracks and crevices, Maxforce
Complete Bait or Intice
Perimeter Bait are recommended.
If you do not feel comfortable using a spray, you
should use one of the granular baits around the outside
perimeter of your home and also apply the bait to cracks and crevices indoors, attics,
basements, crawlspaces and other hiding places. Simply: place cricket
bait (insect baits) in areas of high cricket activity or suspected cricket
hiding places.
