DEET
Insect Repellers
Insect repellents containing various concentrations of DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide) can be safely used to repel biting insects such as:
deer flies, horse flies, stable flies, mosquitoes and ticks, including ticks carrying Lyme
Disease.
Deet is one of the most popular active ingredients used for repelling certain
insects and can be used (in some formulations) on exposed skin.
Sawyer Maxi DEET contains 95% active ingredients and
is packaged in a convenient 2 ounce pump bottle.
If biting flies are your main concern, use Broad Spectrum
Insect Repellent Spray. Used alone, DEET repels many biting insects but our Broad
Spectrum Insect Repellent contains a combination of active ingredients that work
especially well on biting flies. To repel ticks from your clothing while hiking,
hunting or have any outdoor activity where tick populations are expected, spray your
clothes with Clothing Tick Repellent Aerosol Spray.
DEET was developed and patented by the U.S. Army in 1946 for use
by military personnel in insect infested areas.
DEET was Recognized as one of the few products effective against mosquitoes and biting
flies, DEET was registered for use by the general public in 1957. Today, DEET is the most widely used insect
repellent. Most DEET products are registered
for human use; there are a few products registered for veterinary uses.
