Occasional Invaders

Occasional Invaders is a group of particular group of household pests that  includes similar multi-legged type pests such as centipedes, earwigs, firebrats, millipedes, sowbugs, pillbugs, rolly polys. This group of animals are not insects and the old standard insecticides such as Diazinon, Dursban, Malathion and Sevin have little effect on them.

List of Pest Control Products used For Occasional Invaders

Most occasional invaders are just that - invaders.  They do not (under normal circumstances) want to live in our homes but once they wander inside, they will become a nuisance or pest.  These bugs may be found in our homes but do not complete their entire life cycle inside.  In some cases, eliminating the conditions that encourages these pests to breed in large numbers or invade our homes is the primary line of defense or non-chemical control of their populations.  All of the pests listed on this page can be found indoors from time to time.  Keeping a close watch on moisture around and in the home will help keep down their numbers and discourage them from entering.
Your second line of defense is a sensible pest management program.  Most occasional invaders become pests in homes where pest control is usually done on a "need to" basis.  This haphazard method of pest control encourages many of today's pest problems.  Regular pesticide application around the exterior of your home will not only discourage occasional invaders but will also help prevent ants, fireants, carpenter ants, spiders and many other pests from invading your home and becoming an indoor pest infestation.

Treat the exterior surface of your home on a quarterly basis and treat the interior once or twice per year.  This schedule will work for most pests, in most cases.  Treat with a professional insecticide that will not only work on a wide variety of household pests and occasional invaders, but will also give you long residual which requires less spraying.  Wettable powders and microencapsulated products are concentrated insecticides that have little or no odor, are safe for use in and around homes where children and pets are present and also give the long residual needed for quarterly pest control, when used as directed.

Products used in the elimination and prevention of occasional invaders can include spray, dust and granules.  Each situation is different and can require more control products for different areas that need treating.  Sprays are used on exterior (and some interior) surfaces of homes.  Insecticide dusts are used in indoor cracks and crevices for severe or stubborn infestations.  Granulated insecticides help when broadcast in mulched areas, soil or turf surrounding buildings.  Choose the product or products that best suit your needs.
