Rat Baits, Mouse Baits

In order for your rat or mouse elimination program to work, rodenticides need to be placed in areas rats or mice are most likely to encounter your baits (or traps) but safely out of reach of children, pets, wildlife and non-target animals.  It is important to remember that baits are designed to attract or tempt rodents to feed and these baits will kill any warm-blooded animal that consumes enough product for their body weight.

Make sure that your rodenticide is not accessible to children, pets or wildlife.  This is accomplished through proper placement of baits, in an approved bait station.  Choose the bait form, active ingredient and packaging size to best suit your rodent control program.
Examples:

• Contrac Blox should be used if there is any possibility of non-target animals in baiting area.  This bait is less toxic to non target animals than conventional anticoagulants and it can also be secured in a rodent baiter.
• Use Contrac Blox or Talon Weather Bloks when utilizing Protecta Rat Bait Stations.  Both of these baits can be mounted on metal rods (inside the bait station) to help prevent rats from moving your rat bait to unwanted areas.  The Protecta station can be used for rats and mice; Protecta Mouse and Protecta RTU Mouse stations are suitable only for mice.
• Use Quintox Mouse Seed in rodent control programs involving mouse infestations in areas where birds might come into contact with mouse bait and in situations where mice prefer bird feed (or other small grains) over conventional bait blocks or bait pellets.  Quintox attacks your targeted pest where blood is produced - in bone marrow.  Birds have hollow bones, making this mouse bait safer to use than other anticoagulant rodenticides.
• Use Maki Blocks or Maki Packs for single family dwellings or small jobs.  Small warehouses and mini warehouse storage unit companies usually prefer Maki Mini Blocks, Generation or Talon Weather Bloks.   These products are purchased in convenient sizes and are economical for small to medium warehouses.
• Do not use any rat or mouse bait in areas where a Rat Zapper is in use.
• Do not use rat or mouse baits in an area where you cannot be positive of keeping children, pets or wildlife from tampering with your bait.  Rodent traps might be a better option in certain situations.  There are a variety of devices for trapping rodents that include kill traps and live traps.  Trapping rats with live traps in areas of high infestations can be a difficult and expensive job.
• Do not use pellet or seed types of baits in tamper resistant stations in areas where pets might pick up bait that might be scattered or moved by rodents.  Secured bait blocks are safer in these situations, and should be secured in a tamper resistant Protecta bait station for rats and Protecta RTU for mice.

Active Ingredient: Bromadiolone.  Kills rats and mice.
The active ingredient in this rodent bait is a single-feed anticoagulant which is less toxic to non-target animals in primary and secondary poisoning situations than other single-feeding anticoagulants.

Maki Pellet Bait Packs

Active Ingredient: Bromadiolone. Bait shyness is not a problem because a single low dose is most often lethal, producing dead rodents in an average of three to five days after treatment. Maki place packs are extremely effective against Norway and Roof rats and house mice. Each pack of pellets contains 1.5 ounces of bait. Available in single packs and case of 100 packs. Maki Blocks

Quintox Mouse Seed

Active Ingredient: Cholecaliciferol. 
Quintox Mouse Seed is a mouse bait in seed form that is used in areas where bird feed or other seeds are the food of choice for mouse populations.  Mice that are accustomed to feeding on seeds will often ignore baits in block and standard size pellet formulations.  Use Quintox for these mice that are considered to be picky eaters.
 The active ingredient is safer for use around birds than other rodent baits.
Quintox is available in 2 sizes: Pail of 100 place packs and 5 pound bulk.  Each pail of Quintox mouse seed contains 100 packets (10 grams each) and costs $29.50, plus S&H.  Each 5 pound bulk pail is $29.50, plus S&H.
