The active ingredient in Taurus SC (Fipronil) has 2 features which makes this
product especially deadly to social insects:
- NON-REPELLENT - Insects cannot detect the presence of this material, are not repelled by it and will continuously crawl through treated areas until they are killed by the insecticide.
- DOMINO EFFECT - Any pest that crawls or walks over areas treated with Fipronil insecticides will pick up the material through transference. The domino effect takes place as the "contaminated" bug touches other bugs.
Social insects (ants, Carpenter Ants, termites, etc.) are
in constant touch with their nest mates. Ants traveling along pheromone
trails, for example, can be seen touching each other as they move between food
sources and their nest. This activity is used, in large part, to
communicate the needs of the colony, health of individual ants, needs of certain
types of foods and location of food sources.
Once the ants return to their hidden colony, the transfer continues as worker
ants feed and care for the brood and the queen.
How does this all play out in control of ants and other social pests? The initial treatment with Taurus SC has now been transferred from areas sprayed to most of the members of the colony. Within two weeks, most of the ants in that colony are dead. The kill of most of its workers will result in the crash or death of the entire colony.
Fipronil is an active ingredient which many people find
familiar. It is the active ingredient in Frontline topical treatment and
Frontline spray for dogs and cats.

By treating the exterior surfaces, entry points and hiding places of a home as well as spraying the ground around the home twice each year should prevent ant infestations throughout the year. Treatments can be made at almost any time of the year. Spring and Fall are the best times for spraying Taurus SC to control:
Asian lady beetles, darkling beetles
Australian, Oriental, and smoky brown cockroaches
Black widow, brown recluse, cellar, and hobo spiders
Box-elder bugs, pill bugs, Brown and dog ticks
Centipedes, Millipedes, Cluster flies, European earwigs, House crickets
Silverfish
Will kill Paper wasps and Yellow jackets, but does not have fast knock-down.
