How to Apply?

Nisus Bora Care - 1 jug Review (Winter 2023)

The Nisus Bora Care 1 Jug is a gallon of concentrate that can be mixed with water for application.

Mixture

A 1:1 concentration is the most common mixture, and it is suitable for a wide variety of termites. Generally, the bigger the termites, the higher the concentration. A 2:1 concentration is more suitable for subterranean termites or for use on dry wood. but the product can be used at a 3:1 concentration for treating fungi and algae inside the wood or even at a 5:1 concentration for prevention.

Application

As with some of the best carpenter ant killers, this product is designed to be mixed and placed in a sprayer for even application. However, it is possible to paint or foam this product if you need to target a specific area.

Coverage

Depending on your concentration mixture, the Nisus Bora Care-1 Jug offers a coverage area of 200 to 500 square feet when sprayed. However, the coverage area will vary if you’re using other application methods.

Retreatment

If you’re applying this product to structural wood, you will only need one application as it will last the lifetime of the wood. If you’re using it on exterior wood such as a fence, deck or porch which will be exposed to the elements, you will need to reapply approximately every three to five years.

Where to Use?

Nisus Bora Care - 1 jug Review (Winter 2023)

Bora Care should only be used on wood that has not been painted, sealed or stained. If you do need to treat this type of wood, you’ll need to sand it back for effective application.

Target Pests

Bora Care can be used to target a number of pests including:

Termites

Termites can infest any wood, but they can also damage books, swimming pool liners, and insulation. There are approximately 50 species of termites found in the U.S, with some being more aggressive and destructive. Fortunately, Bora Care is effective against all wood-destroying species of termite.

Powderpost Beetles

The Powderpost beetle Trusted Source Powderpost Beetles | Entomology entomology.ca.uky.edu is actually a term that is used for several species of insect that can reduce wood down to a powder with the consistency of flour. This causes slow but devastating damage.

Carpenter Ants

While the best pet safe ant killers may be effective, many products are not suitable for carpenter ants. However, Bora Care can protect your wood against carpenter ant infestation.

Anobiid Beetles

Anobiid beetles typically target softwood, but there are some species that may be found in hardwood. The adults lay eggs in any cracks or depressions in the wood, which bore into the wood as they feed and work towards the surface. This can severely weaken the wood.

Old House Borers

As the name suggests, Old House Borers bore into wood, but they also feed on the wood, causing structural and aesthetic damage.

Is It Safe for People and Pets?

Although Bora Care should be used carefully, once the treated surfaces have dried, it is safe for both people and pets. Although the product continues to work for years, there are low toxicity levels which means that it is perfectly safe for you, your children, and your furry friends.

Weather Resistance

If exterior wood has not been properly sealed and is exposed to weather over the years, any water can force the Bora Care out and compromise its efficacy.

Active Ingredients

The primary active ingredient in Bora Care is disodium octaborate tetrahydrate. This is a form of sodium borate, which is also found in many of the best outdoor spider sprays. Borate salt is an effective ingredient since if it is ingested by insects, they become unable to extract any nutrition from food. This means that the insect will starve to death.

EPA Registration

Nisus Bora Care is an EPA registered product Trusted Source www3.epa.gov for use as an insecticide, fungicide, and termiticide.

Environmental Hazards

Bora Care can seriously retard plant growth or kill plants if it is applied to cropland, shrubs, trees or other plants or if it is carelessly spilled. Therefore, it is important to cover any plants and nearby soil to avoid contamination. You should also take care to avoid contaminating water when disposing of any excess product.

Precautions

Bora Care can be harmful if it is absorbed through the skin, so you should avoid any contact with the eyes, skin or clothing. After handling, wash thoroughly with water and soap. You should also avoid inhaling, so be sure to wear appropriate respiration equipment when applying the product.

Shipping Restrictions

Currently, there are Bora Care shipping regulations for New York. It is restricted for Licensed Applicators only in this state.

PROS

CONS
